Still Life Drawing
I drew my still life drawing like this because I wanted to show the highlights and dark spots on each object. I also wanted to show the light difference in the shadow to make it look more realistic. My inspiration for my work was making my picture look more 3D and having a reflection off of the object I am drawing, I wanted it to look like its standing up and like there is light on my picture to show the effect of the shadow behind the object and not just the objects that I'm drawing. I didn't really reflect off of anyone in this drawing, I just used what I learned with the sphere drawing that we did in class and developed my drawing based on what I learned with that drawing. My still life drawing was originally going to have the nail polish in the front and the sharpener and perfume in the back; but I ended up changing the position of where the nail polish and perfume was and put the perfume in the front and the nail polish in the back. I wanted the perfume in the front because it just looked a lot better and I wanted a bigger object in the front to show hight difference and space between each object. Something I changed in my picture was the places I wanted my objects and the positions I wanted each object to be in. I think it's important to know what positions you want each object, so that you know the height difference and how to shade each object when being hit by the light. Something I think I did well with, in this drawing is contrast and emphasis, I think I did well with contrast because when I saw highlights on my objects, I made my picture have lighter shades to pull out my colors, I also did well with the darkness within the shadow of my objects, I think it really catches the eye of a viewer, and that is using contrast. I also think I did well with emphasis because whenever I put a really dark spot into my picture, for example, like on my nail polish cap or behind my objects for the shadow, that really catches the eye and pulls it out and makes it really noticeable. One of the challenges I went through when drawing my still life drawing was the shape of the and shading of the perfume bottle. This was difficult for me because the shape was hard to draw and even with the light on it, it was hard to see the highlights and to see what color to shade it. How I solved that problem was by taking a picture of my drawing and putting it into black and white. This helped me solve my problem because I could see the highlights and darker spots a lot better. How I grew as an artist/ person is by figuring out new ways to find those harder spots to see in person for example like taking a photo and putting it in black and white. Something I learned from this project is darker shading makes your picture pop more and makes viewers eyes catch your photo and want to look at it more.
